Revisions for Children Story

Okay, so I do like the tan boots after all, and the fireflies are less blob-like in this version.

Children's Story

My goodness, I cannot believe I'm done. I literally heard a choir of hallelujah ringing loudly in my ears. My favorite part was getting to decide what color boots Tasha would wear, yellow or burgundy, that and deciding how dark I wanted the scene to be, oo I almost forgot to mention the shadows!

The story is essentially about a girl, Tasha, who is afraid of the dark. While being a tough little girl and a bit of a tomboy Tasha is still scared of goblins and other things that creep in the night. So, her mother decides to wait until nightfall to show Tasha the fireflies, so that Tasha will remember that no matter how dark it becomes, there will always be a light to comfort her.

I hope you enjoy!

Value Study For Narrative

These are my value studies for the children illustration project. Children are difficult to draw, I used myself as a photo reference for the mom in the story but had to sketch Tasha from photographs of other children. Her gesture, especially those hands were an absolute pain in the butt. The original backdrop was very banal when I started. The house in final tight drawing came about after I perused through a few catalogs for custom made doors, I really do think it adds more interest to the space. I'm very happy with it, and I hope you like it too.
